Following a summer of headlines and social media feeds being dominated by Taylor Swift, even the sneaker industry fell victim to the inescapable Swiftie effect when the 12-time Grammy Award winner sported a “Red/White” colorway of the New Balance 550 at a Kansas City Chiefs game. With the latter quickly selling out in small sizes at a number of retailers. the Boston-based brand continues to capitalize on the Basketball Oxford’s moment in the social sunshine.

Recently the silhouette originally tooled for the hardwood expanded its inline roster with a seldom reconstruction that boasts an extremely breathable tooling. The clad-leather low-top is synonymous with its litany of perforations that stretch along the mid-foot overlay. Yet in the silhouette’s latest installment, the breathable textile has been repositioned to additionally outfit the vamp. Composing two disparate colorways, the blank white effort with exposed foam tongues sees the near entirety of the upper lined with small breathable pockets while the pitch-dark black pair instead extends thick suede overlays. Achieving opposing ends of a monochrome spectrum, both pairs explore the exact same sole unit as a “Grey Matter” outsole accents the greyscale aesthetic above.
