Shenzhen-based fashion label COSTS may not be a household name in the West, but the 11-year-old label has left enough of an impression out East to partner with ASICS.
During Summer 2022, the Chinese label brought lychee vines to sneaker form via a special GEL-Lyte III. With the holiday season in full swing, COSTS has reimagined the ASICS GT-2160 through the lens of traditional craftwork. The latest collaboration has been formed under the banner of “This Is Costs Way,” a concept that aspires to deliver fashionable, comfortable offerings to consumers. Instead of lychee vines, COSTS’ GT-2160 draws inspiration from shao ji, a basket-like tool knitted out of bamboo and used for washing rice. The pair’s breathable mesh and textile upper is clad in a beige tone. The technical runner features soft suede from forefoot the heel, and special details by COSTS on the laces and tongue. A deep shade of blue appreciated by both partners contrasts the ASICS stripes on the profiles, GEL-technology, heel tab, and outsole. Lastly, sockliners on the shoe feature different shao ji prints typical in Southern China.
Enjoy official photos of the pair ahead, and find the shoes at select shops stateside on November 28th. COSTS’ GT-2160 is priced at $140 USD.
