Nike’s yearly recognition of Chinese New Year has always led to a collection of spirited footwear designs, covering a vast variety of Nike Sportswear and Basketball icons for all tastes. But this annual tradition is never complete without a proper Air Force 1, and the 2024 edition simply does not disappoint.
According to @shanghaisole on Instagram, this Nike Air Force 1 Low “Chinese New Year” is confirmed to release on SNKRS on February 14th in China with a 2599 RMB retail price, which converts to around $365 USD. While that MSRP is quite steep, the amount of detailing and effort seen on this design says that the price is not only justified, but rather lenient.
These first look images, seen below from well-known China-based individuals in the sneaker space, reveal the ’82 silhouette dressed in silky gold fabrics, embellished with elegant metallic pieces, and embroidered with the Year Of The Dragon compositions. That treatment extends downwards to the actual midsole with the pattern wrapping 360 degrees, sitting above a cream-colored classic rubber outsole. Significant Chinese characters are also featured throughout, marking the sneaker appropriately for the occasion.
The design is meant to highlight the coinciding dates of Valentine’s Day and the Lunar New Year on China. The traditional pattern signifies the “dragon and phoenix present auspiciousness”. Additional elements in the pattern include peonies, goldfish, mandarin ducks, bats, and other symbols that represent good fortune in love.
This Air Force 1 Low “Chinese New Year” will likely be exclusive to China, so take a closer look just ahead and we’ll notify you if these ever become available outside of that region.
