Original article posted March 12th, 2024: New Balance’s “Nimbus Cloud” colorway echoes the elegance and premium feel of the brand’s “Made In” designs, particularly admired for its simplicity and exquisite use of high-quality suede.
This look, best know for its appearance on the now archived New Balance 992, was a key influence on the design of the PaperBoy Fried Egg 992, also gracing the 990 series across multiple models throughout the years. Now the New Balance 991v2 embraces the favored colorway, offering a rotation refresh for aficionados who managed to get their hands on Nimbus Cloud pairs in the past. Given the design’s liberal use of white suede, heavily worn models of this theme are surely due for an upgrade.
Notably, the Nimbus Cloud 991v2 marries one of the brand’s hottest looks with its newest model, the 991v2 already thriving off collaborations with Stone Island, Danielle Catharti, and a myriad of eye-catching GRs. This delivery follows the precedent set by past Nimbus Cloud designs with a metallic grey base and buttery overlays, brightened up by a reflective New Balance logo.
No official newbalance.com release date has been announced at the time of this writing, but select European retailers are already stocking pairs. A wider Spring 2024 release seems likely given the design’s suitability for warmer weather.
