Turtle power meets the shell toe. When you spell it out like that, it’s a wonder that it took two decades for the cultural forces of adidas and TMNT to finally link up. In their first collaboration, Rafael is in the spotlight, his red mask appearing as a lace-lock charm, and lending its shade to the Three Stripes branding of the adidas Superstar.

Hardware wise, the biological aspects of the character also dress the model, the shell toe segmented in hexagons to reflect, well, a turtle shell. Additionally, the upper gets a tumbled olive leather refresh. Finally, the tongues swap between co-branded tags, while two pairs of insoles depict a fully loaded pizza and the turtles on a rooftop. The shoes will arrive in action figure-like packaging alongside a special edition comic book.

For those keeping count, Rafael getting his own pair would seemingly imply three more releases for Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello down the road. Considering the continuing appeal of iconic characters like Splinter and Shredder, there’s plenty of territory to pull from outside of the four protagonists, so only time will tell what the future holds for the adidas x Ninja Turtles partnership.
