Updated April 29th, 2024: atmos founder Hirofumi Kojima took to Instagram to share new photos related to New Balance Grey Day 2024. On his @koji198139 account, he presented these images on Instagram as a Grey Day “showcase,” leaving it a bit unclear whether all the sneakers on display are new colorways for NB Grey Day 2024, or some are simply sample pairs that illuminate the company’s history. Nonetheless, it gives us a true first look at a few new sneakers, including a cordovan upscaling of the New Balance 1300, the New Balance 990v6 Mule and the New Balance 1500 “EX SERIES” Walking Shoe, reportedly a Japan exclusive. The full range of images are embedded below.
It may carry separate connotations elsewhere in the world, but grey is the the most inspiring of shades for New Balance. Synonymous with the 574 model that defined the company’s beginnings, New Balance has centered its foremost corporate holiday around everything grey beginning in 2018. Now truly in a second prime, the Boston giant is shaping up for”Grey Day” 2024. We’re getting an early look at the New Balance 1906R and Warped Runner styles that’ll be included.
Of course grey takes the lead, but each year has brought a trademark colorway that stretches across multiple silhouettes, olive and beige the secondary shades in 2023. This year, the chosen peripheral pantone is off-white. It paints the underlying mesh on both the WRPD Runner and 1906R, with a soft, muted grey weaving over top. It’s a look that lands pretty close to colorways each model has worn before, ensuring that these special editions will build upon the street-relevance they’ve both achieved.
Though official New Balance word hasn’t come through, it would seem that the two featured shoes here will serve as a central part of the Grey Day Slate. Now boasting dozens of streetwear staples, the Boston giant will almost assuredly add to this slate with fan-favorite models like the New Balance 1000 and New Balance 550. For now, check the official photos embedded below for an advance look.
In a similar coordinated event, we saw the reveal of the adidas Basketball “Playoff Pack.” Tap in for the latest on Anthony Edwards’ shoes, including the brand new AE1 Low.
