Andrew Rizzo In the brief stretch of time between the implosion of Big Baller Brand and LaMelo Ball’s signing with Puma in 2021, the future Charlotte Hornets hooper wore several different Nike Basketball models while playing overseas in Australia. His go-to was the Nike KD 12, but the KD 4 also got plenty of run.
Now the face of Puma Basketball, LaMelo’s soft spot for memorable KD 4 colorways has loosely translated onto his signature shoes multiple times. The KD 4 Galaxy accounted for a Puma MB.01 colorway a couple years back, and now another prized Kevin Durant shoe, the KD 4 Weatherman, could be the inspiration behind this latest pair.
Officially dubbed the “Thermal” colorway, the shoe communicates a similar design theme with a heat map pattern displayed prominently across the sides and heel, decorated by red stitching in alignment with the tongue and lining. A liberal splash of green appears on the synthetic-heavy forefoot, transitioning in a vibrant, matching sole unit. Notably, there’s a viral video of LaMelo Ball dunking in the KD 4 Weatherman at practice from a couple years back.
LaMelo Ball’s Puma MB.01 “Thermal” drops July 26th in Europe, but we haven’t heard of a firm stateside drop date at the time of this writing.
