Every time Aimé Leon Dore posts a seasonal lookbook, our eyes are immediately drawn to what’s being worn on-foot. With the brand’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection set to begin rolling out this week, the Teddy Santis imprint enlisted New Jersey rapper Mach-Hommy to showcase upcoming product. For our purposes, the highlight is two upcoming Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 997s.
Designed to complement the ALD’s seasonal apparel, the first colorway appears to feature olive green leather and yellow/maroon secondary elements. The other takes a more tonal approach with grey and tan suede, although a flash of color crops up near the tongue. Individual product shots haven’t landed yet, but they’ll allow for a more comprehensive breakdown whenever they arrive.
To the uninitiated; the New Balance 997 was the subject of Aimé Leon Dore’s first ever New Balance collaboration. In 2019, ALD released two pastel colorways with the idea of consumers purchasing both pairs and mismatching the left and right shoes. To this day, many consider that duo the best Aimé Leon Dore sneaker collaboration thus far. Notably, the “pink tongue” colorway has sold for as much as $4,000 on the aftermarket.
Taking a step back, the delivery stands a part of a wider 997 revival. The New Balance Fall/Winter 2024 Made In USA collection helmed by Teddy Santis includes a green and red 997, and the quintessential grey, black, and navy colorways have all started becoming available at retailers overseas. The model just recently woke up from a five year slumber, having been temporarily archived not too long after ALD’s first batch landed in 2019.
Aimé Leon Dore hasn’t mentioned a release date for its two 997s yet, so stay tuned for further updates as the brand’s seasonal collection rolls out over the coming weeks/months. Until then, see images of both pairs below.
