New Balance’s Most Controversial Sneaker Of The Year Is Almost Here

The highly-anticipated model debuts September 19th.

New Balance’s Most Controversial Sneaker Of The Year Is Almost Here

Despite not having yet released, the New Balance 1906L is already one of the most controversial shoes of 2024. First leaked by way of a Junya Watanabe collaboration in January, the loaferized version of New Balance’s popular 1906 series has been the subject of countless headlines and discussions about the current direction of the footwear industry. Now putting an end to anticipation, the shoe will hit shelves for the first time on September 19th.

As suspected, the silver and grey “Magnet” colorway that’s been making rounds online will introduce the new model to the world. The shoe utilizes a standard 1906 sole, and as seen here via official retailer images, the top half is heavily re-worked to fit a loafer mold.

Regular readers know that New Balance is privy to turning its most popular models into slip-ons. The New Balance 1906L stands as the third slip-on take on a trending model, following in the footsteps of the New Balance 2002R Mule and New Balance 8040, the latter having just recently debuted this month.

The New Balance 1906L “Magnet” will be available on September 19th for $160 via New Balance and select retailers ($5 more than the standard 1906R). No details regarding the Junya Watanabe 1906L have been made public at the time of this writing, but know that our Sneaker Release Dates page will populate all the latest info as it comes in.
