It’s getting colder by the week in our part of the world, meaning it’s time for us to supplement our autumn rotations with season-appropriate pick-ups. For our purposes, the New Balance 9060 checks two big boxes. The model delivers a trending retro-futuristic aesthetic for one, and its liberal padding and bulbous sole make it more weather-permitting than most tech runners and the like. If you’re looking to slot in a fresh pair before we delve deeper into fall, this new “Shadow Grey” colorway should be a strong contender.
A lecture in “less is more,” the design revolves around New Balance’s hallmark grey color. Monochrome treatments flood the entire shoe, with the upper and midsole boasting a similar mix of light and dark shades. Nubuck and suede panels wrap a mesh base, broken up by traditional dark grey leather on the forefoot and backtab. If you’ve had a chance to get your hands on the 9060, you may have noticed the fabrics New Balance has been using are pretty solid. Certainly not “Made In USA” level, but definitely a few points better than models like the New Balance 1906R and 2002R.
Shown below via official images, the New Balance 9060 “Shadow Grey” is expected to release soon for $150 in unisex sizing. Importantly, while most 9060s are fairly easy cops, likeminded monochrome colorways like the “Magnet” and “Grey Day” were met with significant demand and go for above retail on the aftermarket. If you’re set on securing the “Shadow Grey,” keep our Sneaker Release Dates page handy for timely updates over the coming weeks.
