Andrew Rizzo In celebration of being the US-exclusive retailer behind the “Metallic Silver” New Balance 1906A, New York City’s Extra Butter is hosting a dance music event focusing on independent DJs and the resurgence of underground parties.
To the uninitiated; the New Balance 1906A is the “Tech Explosion” version of the Boston brand’s trending 1906 series, one that takes after “Protection Pack” 2002Rs with a similar emphasis on deconstruction. We got a first look at this Metallic Silver colorway back in July, right around the same time the model itself first hit shelves.
Naturally, Extra Butter Creative Director Bernie Gross has made sure the storytelling behind the event is on-point. A former DJ and dancer himself, Gross looked at the outside-the-box nature of the 1906A and picked musical acts that are just as experimental. NYC’s Laila, Annabelle and Travis George of Sundaae Sauce will all take the stage.
Gross states: “I found a parallel to the shoe’s distinctive design which had materials literally breaking out of it’s conventional paneling, to the rise of indie DJ’s in NYC experimenting with remixes, blending genres and creating the new soundtrack for a resurging dance music scene. Dance music of the 90s was a milestone in my life as a teens starting off as a DJ and a dancer, well before I got into the streetwear business. Seeing a revival of this moment amongst today’s youth makes me excited to see how music evolves and how the dance scene may even influence what is the new design code for street fashion.”
Extra Butter’s underground dance event takes place on Thursday, October 10th at 125 Orchard Street (RSVP here). The New Balance 1906A “Metallic Silver” will release via newbalance.com on October 9th before arriving at Extra Butter on October 12th.
