The Air Jordan 9 doesn’t see nearly as much daylight as other MJ signatures like the Jordan 3 and Jordan 4, but what the model lacks in quantity it’s making up for in quality. Following a 2024 headlined by the return of the OG “Dark Powder Blue” and “Olive” colorways, Jordan Brand will retro 2002’s “Cool Grey” in 2025. While we’ve still got plenty of Jordan releases left to check off until then, official retailer images afford us a first look at what’s to come.
Jordan purists will be happy to hear that next year’s “Cool Grey” AJ9 retro takes after the original to a tee; there’s no “Sail” midsole or other noticeable design tweaks. While far from an original colorway, there’s ample sneakerhead lore worth pointing out here. The Jordan 9 “Cool Grey” was the one and only AJ9 worn by Michael Jordan on a basketball court, occurring in 2002 during Mike’s short stint with the Washington Wizards (Jordan was off pursuing baseball when the model came out in 1993). Origin story aside, anything “Cool Grey” tends to get met with considerable demand.
The impending retro release will mark the third time “Cool Grey” AJ9s have hit shelves, with the most recent edition coming back in 2012. If you’re set on securing a pair this time around, mark your calendar for March 15th, 2025. Enjoy official retailer images below as anticipation builds.
Steering focus to the more immediate Jordan 9 retro, check out the Jordan 9 Olive releasing November 16th in full family sizes.
