The Air Jordan 39 “Dark Powder Blue” Continues The Air Jordan 9 Storyline

Jordan Brand's latest tentpole reaches back 30 years.

The Air Jordan 39 “Dark Powder Blue” Continues The Air Jordan 9 Storyline

There’s a storied history of the latest Air Jordan style references and taking cues from its predecessors, perhaps best seen on the Jordan 31, presenting as a teched-up, futuristic version of the Jordan 1. In recent years, that tradition has slowed, and the Air Jordan 39 represents how Beaverton creatives worked in creative allusions rather than direct references or design aspects from the iconic models that came before it.

That exact sort of indirect homage crops up with the AJ39’s latest “Dark Powder Blue” colorway, of course harkening to the Jordan 9 of the same name that released in March. The same dramatic color-blocking persists, adopting jet black down the midline of the shoe and select “UNC” hits on the outsole, leaving pure white to handle the rest of the shoe.

Nonetheless, the Jordan 39 still capitalizes on a more premium atmosphere than the models that Mike actually hooped in. Soft leathers and an embroidered pattern at the quarter, stemming from Jumpman athletes attempting MJ’s patented crossover, execute that point the best in this colorway.

The Air Jordan 39 “Dark Powder Blue” releases on November 12th, commanding a $200 retail price.
