It’s perhaps only second to “Wheat” in sneakerheads’ winter wardrobes: the “Beef and Broccoli” colorway. Birthed out of the popularity of stop-in Chinese take-out and the Timberland Field Boot in New York City, the pine green and deep brown combination is now partially synonymous with winter weather, spreading far beyond the purview of just the New Hampshire boot company.

Crucially for the shoe featured here, it’s crept into the door in Beaverton, diverging from their wintery offerings for a more lifestyle-minded proposition. The Air Max 90 is the latest to take on the concept, aligning with a pattern of similar releases that tend to emerge this time of year.

Similar to the Jordan 9 linked there, some hardware retooling accompanies the color swatches, tipped off by the chain-like arrangement on the tongue and more durable textiles gracing the base layer. Rounding out the first impressions, pretty typical color-blocking applications of the naturalistic shades carry the top notes, matched by conservative white accenting on the Swoosh and midsole.
