“Sneaker of the Year” conversations for 2024 are all but finished, yet one of the most highly-anticipated shoes of the new year reaches back even further. Reviving what was widely recognized as the defining colorway of ’23, the Nike SB Air Jordan 4 will usher its second edition two years later, spinning off the gum-soled edition of the AJ4 in Navy.
In these first-look images, we get confirmation of the mock-up shots formulated for this shoe’s initial announcement. The flashes of gum brown on the outsole at the forefoot and heel provide aesthetic confirmation of the skate tooling that defines the shoe compositionally. Ironically, these shots come just hours after news that the Jordan 4 SB “Varsity Red” was removed from the release calendar, leaving this as the sole sequel for the seminal 2023 collab.
While we’ll need to wait for in-hand dissections to confirm the hardware, the increased padding, rubber detailing are all expected to accompany the Nike SB branding on the heel. Finally, the biggest divergence on this shoe, the flares of navy where “Pine Green” once took hold, allows this edition to carry the OG sensibility of peers like the “Military Blue” and “Columbia.”
It’s yet to be seen whether the AJ4 in general will hold onto its top status in the Jumpman catalog for 2025, but there’s a slew of colorways already queued up that make it very likely, including this shoe, the “Black Cat” 4s and Air Jordan 4 “White Cement.” Though we don’t have a concrete release date for this shoe, we expect it to hit shelves in March 2025, retailing at $225.
Keep an eye on our Jordan Release Dates page in the coming weeks for additional info on this shoe and other major releases like the Black Cat 3s.
