Who could have imagined that a tech runner from 2009 would inform such a sizable chunk of New Balance’s catalog fifteen years later? The New Balance 1906R has become one of the Boston brand’s top movers since it was brought back in 2022, relishing in demand so great that New Balance has decided to come out with whole host of offshoots.

2024 gave us the New Balance 1906 loafer, one that certainly needs no introduction at this point, to go along with other touch-ups like the “Protection Pack” 1906D and deconstructed 1906A. With a new year underway, New Balance is planning to bring us yet another style called the New Balance 1906W; a sleeker take on the late 2000s silhouette featuring FantomFit material across the upper.

Here we have first looks as four monochromatic colorways penciled in for Spring 2025, landing in black, white, grey, and dark blue. To the uninitiated; New Balance’s FantomFit material is meant to deliver ultra-light support without sacrificing ergonomics. It’s usually hidden internally, but the 1906W sees a diamond-patterned FantomFit exterior wrap all the way around the lateral and medial sides. While maybe a deep cut, one of the first FantomFit shoes arrived in 2018 by way of the New Balance 950v2; a sneaker developed specifically for armed forces as part of deal between New Balance and the US Department of Defense. The exterior of the New Balance 1906W looks awfully similar by comparison.

New Balance hasn’t announced a release date for the 1906W just yet, but all indications suggest a Spring 2025 arrival as well as a $150 MSRP. See official images of all four colorways below in the meantime.
