Since its debut in 2022, the New Balance 9060 has been a dominant force in the lifestyle footwear game, setting the blueprint of a proper retro-meets-modern design that speaks to today’s consumer. Nearly three years later, we’re finally getting a unique update to the silhouette in the form of exterior TPU cages. Read below for more on the New Balance 9060 Cage.
The silhouette remains consistent, but the upper comes in refreshed with some modern approaches to design and construction. First up is the aforementioned exoskeleton that sits on the upper, perfectly aligned with the overlay design. It wraps around the heel and stretches around the toe, locked in by a small loop.
Beneath the framework is a seamless, taped layer pressed into the mesh infrastructure of the shoe; this detail adds another element of modern style as tech-wear inspired kicks lean more towards the no-sew appearance.
Two colorways have appeared; one with a blue-to-black gradient and another in a red-to-black gradient. Surprisingly, the MSRP has remained consistent with the standard pair at $150.
Could this new New Balance 9060 Cage execution be the focus of collaborations? The Boston brand has generally moved away from the silhouette for its partnerships as the seasonal in-line product remains healthy without experience the exhaustion like the New Balance 550 has. Regardless, we’re glad to see an update on the 9060; more colorways are likely to follow.
