Sneaker News Kevin Durant’s MVP award acceptance speech in 2014 was one for the ages. It set a new standard for the tradition because these year-end ceremonies tend to get more and more teary-eyed and emotional as years go by. The speech was so timeless that Nike is honoring that moment in Durant’s career with not one, but two different KD 4 launches in February.
The Nike KD 4 Retro is slated to be back in a big way in February thanks to this duet of animated designs inspired by KD’s words. This alternate edition remembers the rich shade of blue worn by Kevin as it paints the majority of the upper.White comes in on the mid-foot strap and breathable cut-outs, while golden accents appear to outline the Swoosh and KD logo as well as the basketball charm fixed to the tongue.
On the inner side of the strap is the iconic quote “We weren’t supposed to be here…” that Durant tearfully shares to media while his eyes are fixed on his mother Wanda; her name appears behind the tongue with a floral design. “You the real MVP” , the iconic final words of that speech, are scripted into the insoles.
This KD 4 “MVP Speech” is confirmed to arrive on February 18th, 2025 for $130; the white pair also dropes on the 18th, but for $150.
