Matt Varga adidas has pushes a number of models alongside the Samba to further its foothold in the lifestyle world, but it remains a tough task to match the organic purchase that the football icon holds. We just saw a mini-craze for the Cheetah Sambas redouble the silhouette’s influence — can they do it again with the adidas Samba in pony hair?
As alluded to in the title, both of the aforementioned animalistic shoes draw from the work of Grace Wales Bonner, no small part in catapulting the Samba to the forefront of street style once again. In fact, it’s seemingly the same 2023 collection that serves as the jumping-off point for either. Things are understandably a bit more simplistic with this edition, utilizing a monochromatic overall finish and injecting some novel energy with woven stitching surrounding the Three Stripes branding. Two sets of laces offer some slight customizability, but the high-fashion-adjacent appeal of this shoe persists no matter how you trot them out.
The adidas Samba “Pony Hair” is releasing soon in Asia, with a stateside release currently TBD. Retail pricing isn’t confirmed just yet but is expected to hover around $120.
