Sneaker News No imprint has quite the universal reach like Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons does. It’s collaborative limits are still unknown as they’ve crossed brand lines like no other in history working simultaneously with nearly every major athletic footwear brand across the board, somehow juggling multiple projects per season while operating several tiers and diffusions under the CDG tent.
While CDG BLACK and Homme Plus are locked in with Nike, the SHIRT sub-line went forward with a partnership with ASICS back in 2020. While the former relies on plain whites and blacks, the latter has willingly gone the opposite route by showcasing textiles and patterns not seen in any other CDG sneaker collab.
Thus far, we’ve seen multi-colored duck camos and black-and-white leopard prints alongside bright tonals and clean whites. CDG SHIRT is less predictable for sure, and their latest delivery for Spring/Summer continues their wayward ways with a a complete plaid overhaul on the split-tongued GEL-Lyte III.
Two styles of the Comme des Garçons x ASICS GEL-Lyte III have surfaced with the country-esque pattern — one more red/black while the other a spring picnic affair. Right now, this collaboration is available at select boutiques in Europe with an MSRP of €395; once it drops in the US, a comparable retail price is to be expected.
On the topic of most-wanted collabs, their CDG Nike Sense SP finally has an official release date of April 10th.
