Matt Varga Skepta, as always, is a busy man. On top of his hip-hop career, heading up the Más Tiempo electronic event series, and directing his MAINS apparel brand, the UK MC is one of just a few to hold a PUMA signature shoe. It’s likely that so many verticals calling for his attention is part of the reason why only a few colorways of his PUMA Skope have surfaced in a shade over a year’s time.
Given that the past several months in the Skepta PUMA relationship have focused on the hiking-focused mid cut, the return to the original composition is something of a welcome surprise. Despite that compositional shift, the “Flat Grey” colorway on offer should be easily recognizable for dedicated watchers of their output, striking a more-or-less identical note to their last released collab. That holds true for the top notes of this release, combining steely mesh underpinnings with black overlays and trim. Just as well in the slighter details, including bronzed flares on the heel and midfoot shank, and mint green and fire red lace options.
