Sneaker loafers look to play a big role in spring/summer fashion this year, and it’s largely because of New Balance. Ever since the New Balance 1906 Loafer graced our newswire, brands like HOKA, Converse, Mizuno, and more have joined the chorus with loafer sneakers of their own, bolstering a niche that’s as fresh as it is controversial. Circling back to the model responsible for the movement, the New Balance 1906L has now surfaced in familiar “Raincloud” tones.
The New Balance 1906L has rotated through a variety of different materials thus far, including all-suede, all-leather, and mixed-media styles featuring a whole cast of different finishes. This “Raincloud” colorway takes after the “Magnet” with a mesh base and pebbled leather overlays. Balanced grey tones stay close to the Boston brand’s core ethos, although there’s nothing traditional about the loafer as a whole. The model maintains New Balance 1906 tooling with a likeminded heel counter and layering scheme, and underfoot, the midsole is the exact same. ACTEVA LITE, N-ergy, and ABZORB SBS pods make for a cushioned wear, speaking directly to 9 to 5ers riding the “comfort era” wave.
