First Look At The Air Jordan 5 “Wings”

It’s a year of anniversaries for the Jumpman: the 40th year of the brand, the 35th year of the Air Jordan 5 — a host of monumental celebrations. While the storied history of the company is in focus, there’s some modern fare worth celebrating as well. The Jordan Wings program, both a scholarship and a run of retros, is ushering in its 10th birthday this year. It’s only fitting that this occasion collides with one of the aforementioned with the Air Jordan 5 “Wings.”

As always, Mike’s personal story factors into both this retro and the utilitarian endeavor in general, nodding to the early educators that helped give way to the legendary career we’re now so familiar with. Unlike some of the past stops on this journey, sporting primary colors befitting of the early education that the program tackles, the Air Jordan 5 “Wings” instead comes almost uninterruptedly in chrome. The glitzy shade paints the synthetic upper while spinning into even more reflective flair on the netting and midsole hits.

It doesn’t feel like a stretch to say this plays off the heritage of shoes like the Air Jordan 5 “Metallic” in doing so, perhaps spinning off a more eye-catching variation. Where the shoe really begins to shine is with the branding details, swapping the typical 23 on the heel counter to 10th anniversary text, pinning ceremonial embroidery on the toe (“In This House | No One Flies Alone”), and a painted handprint on the sole. Perhaps the most charming addition is a tasseled hangtag, again spotlighting the educational air this shoe was minted for.

As of writing, a release date for the Air Jordan 5 “Wings” isn’t entirely clear, nor is a release date — a Fall 2025 window (July – September) has been reported. However, these first looks is an indication that the shoe should be coming in the next few months.
