New Balance Tokyo Design Studio Wakes Up With Reimagined MT10T

New Balance’s Tokyo Design Studio was conceived as an experimental lab for the brand’s practical-use, borderline boring sneakers. The results have been nothing short of impressive as they’ve relied on exquisitely designed add-ons, but for the Minimus trail shoe, they’ve gone the opposite route.

The New Balance MT10T V1 TDS is even more stripped down than its source material. The upper appears to be rebuilt with soft neoprene uppers and rubber overlays, replacing the raw and open mesh upper design in favor of a minimally branded, mega basic design. In contrast, some of Tokyo Design Studio’s better known projects include the ripple-soled 574 and the tech’d out Niobium Concept snow-shoe family.

The M10’s place in the current world of footwear trends falls right in line with the low-profile, flat-soled movement — one that New Balance typically was removed from. But that’s where TDS comes in.

A release date for this latest TDS drop is scheduled for June 5th globally.
