ASICS has forged something of a unique relationship with a few of their partners. Beginning with the ASICS GEL-NYC, they’ve linked up with frequent partners and gotten their input in developing new models, teeing up Awake NY’s Angelo Baque for that silhouette before enlisting Gallery Dept. in the development of the GEL-K1011. With KITH and Ronnie Fieg spearheading the ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1, it would appear that pipeline has a third member approaching, as the silhouette tees off six colorways for the summer season.
A mashup of the ASICS GEL-Kayano 12 upper with the sole unit from the GEL-Nimbus 17, the model the model is built on a more rounded overall shape than the totemic GEL-Kayano 14, yet works in more visual depth than its mainstream counterpart, visible with the textured ASICS logo, FluidRide midsole that features a checkered, embossed pattern, and the branching inset layer towards the toe.
For this wave of initial looks, a majority build off of the silvery tech style we’ve seen elsewhere in the ASICS catalog, including a a darkened jet black pair, several that work burgundy, ice blue, and green accent shades into the profile. The two most adventurous build out a brown and blue combination that hits on a sportier side of throwback aesthetics, and a Hurricanes-approved blend of green and bright orange.
Expect the ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1 to hit ASICS.com in short order. Retail pricing is currently unconfirmed, but will likely hover around $160.
