From our position, obscure Nike Air Max models make for some the most fun and energizing news topics. Mainstay silos like the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, and Air Max 95 are iconic for a reason, but the Beaverton brand has so many more models that have been covered by the sands of time, and it makes us (or at least me) a bit giddy when they return. If you’re in agreement, you’ll be pleased to hear that the Nike Air Max Plus VII is gearing up for a retro run during the Fall 2025 shopping season.
The Air Max Plus VII (aka Nike TN7) originally released in 2005 as the seventh iteration of Nike’s cult classic Tuned Air series, meaning 2025 marks its 20th anniversary. It’s got the same shape of Sean McDowell’s original Air Max Plus from ’98, but the design goes in a different, more Y2K-leaning direction. In lieu of a cage, the upper features a synthetic TPU pattern consisting of dots that melt into blobs in certain areas. Tuned Air tech still lives underfoot, but the sole is altered with a different midfoot plate that stretches up and around the heel.
Nike has several colorways planned for Fall/Winter 2025, starting with a “Varsity Maize/Black” edition that’s already surfaced via official images. The folks at @tn.worldwide.official have also uncovered a “Dusk” colorway featuring a palette of “Total Orange/Volt/Cactus Flower” (both can be seen in detail below).
The Air Max Plus VII is one of a few obscure Air Max models to be unearthed in recent memory, joined notably by the Air Max Craze and Air Max Sunder. Looking a bit further ahead, we’re also anticipating the return of the Air Max Dolce through a CDG collab earmarked Spring/Summer 2026.
No concrete release dates for the Air Max Plus VII have been announced yet, but we’re expecting several colorways to hit shelves during the Fall 2025 shopping window (between July-September). See detailed images of the “Varsity Maize” and “Dusk” below and stay tuned for further updates.
