The New Balance 1906L Goes Black Patent Croc Skin

The New Balance 1906L Goes Black Patent Croc Skin

Finally, it appears that the mania around the New Balance 1906 Loafer is beginning to die down just a bit. Whether it’s because it’s already chalked off its biggest fans with a healthy stream of fresh color-ups or because its months-long head start has finally come to a close via fiercer market competition, some of the silhouette’s fresher editions are actually accessible at retail (namely, the “Olive” and “Beige.”) While a boon for consumers, it means on the brand side that bigger swings are necessary to bring that energy back up to its high watermark, demonstrated well by the upcoming New Balance 1906L “Black Patent.”

Skipping over a halfway point in the middle, Boston designers introduce two material changes for this pair. While we’ve caught leather do-ups of the hybrid style before, the glossy, reflective counterpart here is a genuine step forward, as is the checkered textures that make good on the “Croc” half of its unofficial title. And to their credit, there’s nothing subtle about their application of said hardware; these new textures spread comprehensively across the upper, doubling down on the wonky, divisive build of the silhouette with an equally can’t-miss compositional profile.

The New Balance 1906L “Black Patent / Croc” is expected to touch down this Holiday season, commanding a $160 retail price.
