Matt Varga Since announcing a long-term partnership, Mercedes AMG and adidas have been pedal to the metal, tying in high-profile third parties like Bad Bunny, along with inline releases that tapped into running and the everlasting adidas Superstar. As we enter the back half of the 2025 F1 season, another significant moment comes off the track, as Mercedes AMG Petronas and adidas Consortium join hands for their widest lifestyle series to date.
Looping in their collaborative Consortium platform this time around, adidas offers up three distinct silhouettes to the German automotive giant as part of this drop-off, spanning the ZX 8500, Megaride GT, and adiStar Control 5. Dissecting each in order, the ZX 8500 makes only its second-ever appearance, first introducing its hybrid design midway between the ZX 8000 and ZX 9000 with OVERKILL in 2021. With the success of Mercedes in the ’90s acting as the guiding principle for the collection as a whole, either parent model is a suitable choice, stemming from that same era. Team shades take over the black-and-red pair, while the other shifts into a more easily digestible everyday direction in near all-grey.
Then it’s over to the Megaride GT, a novel inclusion sporting a trending tech choice for the brand seen with the Predator Megaride in recent inline applications. The same black and red shadings act as contrast notes to a Y2K-steeped, ridged chrome body. Of course, the propulsion hardware remains the primary focus, splayed out with six bisected pods underfoot. Finally, the Three Stripes has presented the adiStar Control 5 as a defining face with milestones like the Sporty & Rich collection, but we couldn’t fault you for not recognizing it here. Though the cushioning platform remains in place, a layered, wavy mesh build replaces the traditional tech-runner overtones it wears.
The adidas Consortium x Mercedes AMG range is expected to launch first via Asphalt Gold on October 5th, before going wide to adidas Confirmed on October 7th. An apparel collection will also be coming alongside.
