Matt Varga In Salomon’s meteoric rise to become an earnest fashion brand on top of its outdoorsy bona fides, we could fault you for—but still understand—losing track of the latter half of that equation. After all, JJJJound, Maison Margiela, and Feid aren’t exactly a murderer’s row of mountain men, impressive as their collaborative output with the brand has been.
Around the turning point for the lookbook-ability of the Salomon empire came the inaugural Carhartt WIP x Salomon link-up, a Shelter CSWP hiking boot. In the time since, Carhartt has only bolstered their own footprint outside of their workwear ethos, adding collaborations with Clipse and Sacai in the second half of 2025 alone. Now the two switch-hitters reunite, having blazed their own streetwear trails, still keeping their shared utilitarian principles at the heart of the Carhartt WIP x Salomon X-ALP. First revealed with some in-hand retailer images, the shoe builds out a mixed-media upper in almost entirely jet black, combining leather eyestay panels, a rubber mudguard, and a synthetic wrap-around stripe. Where the collaborative flair is most present is in the patches of earthy duck camo, painting the collar, tongue, and insoles before pinning spell-out text on pull tabs at the very rear.
Current information points to the Carhartt WIP x Salomon X-ALP dropping on December 18th via both brands’ sites; a $200 MSRP is expected.
