The New Balance 1906U Stares Upon “Eclipse”

A flashy pair expected soon.

The New Balance 1906U Stares Upon “Eclipse”

New Balance’s 1906 product family trots on as an essential pillar of their catalog. While you’ll still be treated to new colorways of the base 1906R more often than not as you refresh their web presence, buzzier flanks like the New Balance 1906L earning croc-skin overhauls and the return of the “Protection Pack” 1906D deliver more high-voltage additions to the festivities.

At various points, it’s felt like the 1906U has been lost in that mix. Part of that may be due to a duplicativeness in its stated purpose; the “Utility” aspect of its title is delivered aesthetically by the 1906A, which exaggerates its industrial design choices, and functionally by weather-ready overhauls of the 1906R that’ve trickled out. The extra overlays and streamlined look may still have life yet with the correct visual executions—something that the “Eclipse” colorway at hand does well. While function-minded navy, grey, and black blend together in the upper, the clear central choice is the neon green lodged into the sole, taking over the rear half when seen from the side and bleeding into the TPU shank embedded at the midfoot.

The New Balance 1906U “Eclipse” is due out as part of the Holiday ’25/Spring ’26 slate, retailing for $160 upon release.
