Steph Curry Wears Flu Game 12s And Last Shot 14s In Utah

“Iconic,” “monumental,” “defining”; we’ll be the first to admit that the sneaker media apparatus can be prone to exaggeration. That’s especially evident when something hits the newswire that truly fits that category. It’s tough to overstate how massive a story Steph Curry and Under Armour’s pending divorce is, placing one of the modern game’s faces in a state of limbo for the first time in his Hall of Fame career.

Indeed, the actual business of where the Baby Faced Assassin will call home for the back nine of his career takes precedence, but on a more immediate level, Curry having fun with his “free agency” has been a genuine highlight in the wake of that industry shakeup. In the very first game post-announcement, we saw Steph in the Kobe 6 “Mambacita,” later lacing up the Reebok Shaqnosis, the Li-Ning JB4, and the Nike Sabrina 3 amid several other pre-game moments. Given the Jumpman’s looming presence over the sneaker game even now, it’s hard to say that any have been more impactful than what we got as the Warriors took on the Jazz, as #30 hit his tunnel walk in the Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” before swapping to the Air Jordan 14 “Last Shot” for warm-ups.

Of course, the multiple-time All-NBAer knows what he’s doing, rubbing salt in the wound of what’d be an easy win for his Dubs by nodding to two of the most painful moments in franchise history, when His Airness felled the Jazz in the 1997 and 1998 Finals. Simply on an aesthetic level, even as these photo ops become more commonplace, seeing Steph representing the Jumpman on feet is still an uncanny sight, tapping into what could’ve been over the last decade if he never landed at UA.

While all of these viral moments serve NBA diehards and the sneaker public with such unbelievable images, we’ll state the obvious by saying that this is unquestionably a shrewd tactical move from Curry and co. Spreading the wealth across various brands leaves the point guard well armed for any potential negotiations to follow, heading into any of those discussions with established metrics of how his unrivaled star power can boost any of their products.

Catch shots of this latest round of brand exploration from Steph included below; this surely won’t be the last check-in as he continues his flirtations.
