With the exception of a run-in at the Olympics, Kobe Bryant and Paul Gasol shared a close bond most would be lucky to find just once in their lifetime. Gasol has said Kobe was the closest thing he had to an older brother, a relationship forged through effortless on-court chemistry and winning two NBA Championships together. Even more important is the role Pau has taken on within the Bryant family following Kobe’s tragic passing, continuing to honor his promise to show up as a mentor for Kobe’s daughters.
It’s that bond that inspires this upcoming Kobe Air Force 1 Protro release, named “Siempre Hermanos” for “Always Brothers.” The shoe’s western undertones stem from a racing horse named Siempre Mio, purchased by Bryant and Gasol back in 2012. This same theme also appears on an upcoming Nike Kobe 8 Protro EXT, originally believed to be a supplement to Nike Basketball’s “Year of the Horse” lineup.
The gallery below reveals a predominantly Twine suede upper with Flax leather piping throughout. The Swoosh lands in Baroque Brown pony hair with a matching leather border, complemented by Ocean Cube suede on the sheath-stamped backtab and tongue. Stitched detailing takes over the heel, while a metal horseshoe-inspired lace dubrae reading “Siempre Hermanos” ties the theme together. This is indeed an Air Force 1 Protro release, meaning it’s got a drop-in ReactX foam midsole for improved comfort.
