In so many ways, Virgil Abloh lived on the cutting edge, early to many of the trends in the design space that’d go on to become dominant in his wake. Even his legacy has that same atmosphere of being ahead of the curve. During the “The Codes” showcase in Paris, we saw the first seeds of the Nike Cryoshot movement, now officially revealed to the public and letting loose an official look at what VAA is bringing to the celebration.

First earnestly teased with a hand-drawn spot where Travis Scott and Mia Hamm made cameo appearances, Abloh’s estate is now confirmed to have taken over the Nike Zoom M9 in their link-up with Team USA. Tapping Mia Hamm for that advert, in hindsight, is a knowing nod, as this collaboration revisits the M9 so associated with her, initially released in 1999 as the first women-first pitch performance model.

Exposed “AIR” branding keeps the multi-hyphenate’s trademark at the fore, but otherwise this is one of the more simplistic in the Cryoshot set, utilizing flares of fire red to bring energy to an otherwise snowy white composition. In the apparel is where maximalism really takes hold, as warm-up rugbies come with a smattering of emblems, patches, and stamps, coming to a head with VAA text on the sleeves and an “ARCH” Swoosh emblem on the breast.

In a release cadence that’ll ring familiar if you’ve read our other coverage of the Nike Cryoshot program, Virgil Abloh Archive and the USA National Team will drop the shoes and apparel first on June 11th. A launch via Dover Street Market follows on the 13th, before a wide launch via SNKRS and partnering retailers on June 16th.
