Andrew Rizzo The always-impressive, often legendary Nike Marketing department remains a deep well of inspiration for new sneaker releases, particularly when a present-day moment lines up with a chapter from the past. The World Cup has long been a banner event for the Swoosh, with every four-year cycle delivering a new “movie” built around the stars of its era. From that archive comes the reference powering Nike’s upcoming “Scorpion” collection of Air Max shoes, harking back to 2002’s “Secret Tournament” advert with consistent nods to the film’s scorpion logo.
Here we have official images of the Nike Air Max 90 “Scorpion” in “Black/Gamma Blue/Ice/Chrome,” part of a larger pack rounded out by the Air Max 95, Air Max Plus, Air Max Plus VII, and a second Air Max 90 colorway. The headlining detail lives on the backtab, where Gamma Blue scorpion logos replace the model’s usual Nike Air branding. More Gamma Blue hits land on the the midsole wedge and mudguard window, while the outsole carries an X-ray graphic. Black leather and mesh handle the bulk of the upper, with Chrome Swooshes dotting each side.
