Short of soccer, American football is about the best you can ask for when it comes to rivalries. It’s a witch’s brew of inherent city vs. city animosity, each individual game meaning so much in a season that, at most, tops out at around twenty games, and long histories of specific squads duking it out. That means that the Bears-Packers, Cowboys-Eagles, or Steelers-Ravens matchups have an extra layer of intrigue, something the league has leaned into in recent years.
In 2025, the shield enlisted Nike to assist in that storytelling. The Nike Air Max 90 “Rivalry” series, first revealing prideful Air Max 90 colorways mid-season and later built on with one-off alternate jerseys, first looked to the AFC East (MIA, NYJ, NE, BUF) and the NFC West (SF, SEA, LAR, ARI) for its inaugural effort. Shifting locales, the NFC North (CHI, GB, MIN, DET) and the AFC South (TEN, HOU, JAX, IND) are in focus, initially revealed here with the Nike Air Max 90 “Colts” and Air Max 90 “Titans.”
Though neither is exceptionally revolutionary when it comes to its color palette, there are plenty of team-specific touches that help push these over the line. The “Titans” version finds its shine in glossy blue Swooshes before adding stars on the heel and “Music City” patches on the tongue. For Indy, the Colts’ Air Max 90 (ironically) pins the “For the Shoe” mantra up top, leaning on stealthy overall coloring and planting the iconic horseshoe on its rear.
We will note that it’s somewhat curious that these “Rivalry” NFL x Nike Air Max 90 colorways are emerging so early, more than two months ahead of the regular season. For context, last year’s efforts began popping up in October before an eventual November wide release.
