Andrew Rizzo Nike is once again bringing home the Bakin’ with another original colorway from the model’s 1997 run, the golden era hoops shoe adding to its retro lineup with the return of the “Varsity Royal” for Holiday 2026. New images shared by @rache1_nguyen reveal the sneaker in full, showing a number of changes from both the OG and the subsequent 2008 retro.
One of a couple upcoming OG colorways alongside the Air Bakin’ “Varsity Red,” the “Varsity Royal” keeps its core formula intact with a blue cage and predominantly black foundation. The 2008 retro differed with “Nike Air” in place of the original wavy text on the tongue and heel, branding that initially drew some backlash for its unintentional religious resemblance. Where the OG and 2008 retro featured grey mesh and white leather on the tongue, the 2026 edition opts for all-black. The collar branding is also different, now sporting a white Swoosh over a black TPU oval. The visible Air cushioning and white jewel Swoosh within the midsole remain unaltered.
Following original colorways in 2026, the Air Bakin’ will stay in focus into 2027 with new styles, including a Jae Tips collaboration that falls on an upcoming low-top version of the model.
