Matt Varga Pharrell Williams, as always, has his hands in many pots. On top of his “side hustles” as footwear designer alongside the Three Stripes and overall creative director for Louis Vuitton’s menswear, his day job as a musician is as in vogue as ever. After beginning their discographical relationship with the Migos’ “Stir Fry,” Williams and Quavo are plotting a full-blown collab album, and took to Disneyland as a part of the rollout effort. Yet Skateboard P had more in store, debuting a new Pharrell x adidas silhouette in the process.
This new Pharrell x adidas sneaker exhibits an interesting juxtaposition of streamlined, thin uppers and a super chunky, stacked sole. The latter touch aligns with adi’s overall moves as of late, leaning into industry trends with the HYPERBOOST Edge, a cross-trainer that further added to the legacy of their BOOST franchise. For Pharrell’s part, perhaps this is a suitable middle ground between two dueling aesthetics in his Three Stripes resume. The adidas Jellyfish continues to make headlines for its extreme maximalism, but additional silhouettes like the Water Moc and Vario Flat Earther have tackled the slim-sole movement.
