Gohar World Pierces And Pearls The Ballet-Inspired ASICS GEL-DS Trainer

Ballet meets grunge?

Gohar World Pierces And Pearls The Ballet-Inspired ASICS GEL-DS Trainer

The ballet sneaker trend isn’t slowing down, but Gohar World and ASICS SportStyle are making sure their contribution doesn’t look particularly precious and dainty like we’ve seen.

The New York-based design studio has taken on the new ASICS GEL-DS Trainer SP, a low-profile silhouette that combines the shape of a ballet flat with design cues pulled from mid-2000s track-and-field spikes. Beneath its unconventional appearance are familiar ASICS performance components, but Gohar World takes that technical foundation and makes things considerably stranger.

The shoe is covered with an assortment of mismatched embellishments, including unusual charms such as Chicken Foot Pearl, Potato Pearl, Baroque Pearl, and Black Onyx charms. Stainless-steel piercings add a harder, grungier aspect, while a silver-plated copper Gohar Bean provides another unexpected detail. Contrasting black and orange laces allow the shoe to be styled in different ways.

For their official announcement, Gohar World keeps to the borderline weird by showcasing a table with human legs as the centerpiece of the accompanying campaign, choosing to go an abstract route in comparison to the straightforward feminine aesthetic we’ve seen from what seems like an endless streak of ballet-themed footwear collabs.

The Gohar World x ASICS GEL-DS Trainer SP releases September 1st exclusively through Gohar World for $218; see a closer look at the footwear just ahead.
