Sneaker News The adidas Springblade is expected to return in late 2026 or early 2027, bringing one of the brand’s most unconventional running shoes back to market more than a decade after its original debut.
First released in 2013, the Springblade was built around a highly unusual cushioning system consisting of individual polymer blades underneath the foot. Designed to compress upon impact and return energy as the runner moved forward, the technology also gave the Springblade an unmistakable appearance that may have been too much to stomach.
Springblade arrived the same year adidas introduced BOOST. While adidas put considerable marketing effort behind its futuristic new blade technology, Springblade ultimately had a relatively short run. BOOST, meanwhile, became the cushioning platform that would define the next era of adidas Running, although that explosion didn’t happen until 2015 when Ye, formerly Kanye West, put the UltraBOOST on the map.
Images of current adidas Springblade footwear have now begun circulating, suggesting the German brand is preparing to revisit the concept. Exact release information remains unclear, including whether the shoe will return as a faithful retro or receive any updates for the modern market.
Where Springblade fits in the curent market is perhaps the more interesting question. Its unconventional tooling still feels too eccentric, particularly as a performance running option. Its design, however, could lend itself well to adidas’ more fashion-minded projects much like how Rick Owens gave his own interpretation of the silhouette back in 2014. An interpretation by Yohji Yamamoto’s Y-3 sub-line, or even some younger edge via Sp5der could leverage Springblade’s avant-garde appearance rather than trying to tame it.
For now, expect the adidas Springblade to potentially return in late 2026 or early 2027, with additional details still to come.
