Believe it or not, we’re only a few short weeks away from a new NBA season, and we’ve gotten some serious footwear headlines out of that occasion. NBA media day gave us plenty of first looks at superstars with new threads; the Nike SHAI 001 and a potential Futura Book 2 collab chief among them. The Suns superstar is now getting back to a more conventional pathway to show off fresh heat, as the Nike Book 2 “Mexican Blanket” made its first appearance pre-game.
Yes, while we’re sure that there’s more to come from the Book 2 as the actual regular season tips off, preseason is still just as fitting a canvas for Devin’s advance previews. As alluded to in its title, the Nike Book 2 “Mexican Blanket” takes its striped, multicolor arrangement from the woven sarape blanket, expanding on explorations of Arizona’s local culture by nodding to the sizable Mexican demographic in the state.
Digging deeper, it’s another reflection of his reverence for the late Kobe Bryant; though the Swoosh has let loose several “Mexican Blanket” colorways in their history, the most notable came on the lifestyle version of the Kobe 8 (the NSW) that shared very similar warm coloring to the Nike Book 2 at hand.
