In a recent interview with TIME, the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar offered a brief but revealing preview of his second signature shoe, which is expected to release in early 2027. Asked what consumers can expect from the Nike SHAI 002, Gilgeous-Alexander kept his response characteristically concise: “Sick design. Because I drew it. That’s all I can give you.”
Gilgeous-Alexander was heavily involved in the creation of his debut SHAI 001, even producing the initial sketches that helped establish the silhouette’s distinctive design language. His latest comments suggest that level of creative involvement will continue as his signature line develops, so this news here shouldn’t come at a complete surprise.
The upcoming SHAI 002 will also mark an interesting new chapter in the partnership. Gilgeous-Alexander transitioned from Converse to parent company Nike in June, bringing his signature footwear business under the Swoosh after launching his first model with Converse. Images of a Nike-branded SHAI 001 during OKC’s Media Day generated plenty of excitement for the sequel, so it’s safe to say that this unveil is one of the biggest moments in Nike Basketball’s 2027 calendar.
While no images or technical details of the SHAI 002 have been revealed, the reigning NBA superstar’s comments suggest that his personal design sensibilities will remain central to the project.
