Being a New Balance Made in England fan doesn’t come cheap, but few corners of the sneaker world have been treated better in recent seasons, thanks in large part to the 991v2 and its consistently strong run of colorways. The latest from the Boston brand arrives as part of an “Elevated Neutrals” pack spanning multiple styles with shared color blocking, with this “Iron/Mulch” makeup standing out as a near-perfect fall rotation piece.
As with its packmate, the highlight here is the mesh upper, which takes on a more open construction that almost recalls the texture of a thermal waffle shirt. From there, New Balance goes with some relatively unconventional color blocking, led by dark brown suede wrapping the upper eyestay and lower midfoot. The quarter, toe, and heel panels shift to a lighter brown, while reflective “N” logos hit the quarter panels and grey leather finishes the tongue, backtab, and forefoot.
This is one of two “Elevated Neutrals” styles revealed thus far alongside the New Balance 991v2 “Turbulence/India Ink” (U991EC2). It’s worth noting that while these official images show a more earthy, clay-like palette, other photography depicts the various brown and grey panels in considerably less saturated tones.
The New Balance 991v2 “Iron/Mulch” is beginning to land at select retailers now for $270 in men’s sizes, suggesting a wider New Balance release should be right around the corner. Check out detailed images below if you’re looking to add a pair to your fall rotation.
