As Sneaker of the Year conversations heat up and brands continue getting their holiday lineups in order, the 2027 release calendar is slowly but surely beginning to take shape. Nike and Jordan Brand, unsurprisingly, are already giving us plenty to talk about. Alongside news of a Nike Kobe 7 Protro “Halo” comes word of another Kobe return, with Sneaker Files and zSneakerHeadz reporting that the Kobe 8 “Mine Grey” is set to return in Protro form for Fall 2027.
Those familiar with the Kobe Brand’s Protro program know the drill. The updated version is expected to stay true to the original 2013 release, only with updated performance. React cushioning replaces the original Cushlon setup, the upper is thicker, and the traction better. The color scheme is expected to remain unchanged, centered around the Mine Grey snakeskin-patterned fabric covering the upper. Court Purple hits the Swoosh and laces, while University Red accents the TPU heel clip.
The Nike Kobe 8 Protro “Mine Grey” is currently expected to release in Fall 2027, putting its arrival sometime between July and September. Check out detailed images of the original 2013 edition below for a refresher.
