Andrew Rizzo A sting from the tarantula hawk wasp sucks as much as it sounds, producing blinding pain often compared to electrocution and so severe that the official advice from scientists is to simply lie down and start screaming. There’s nothing agonizing about afew’s tarantula hawk-inspired Saucony collab, though, with the German retailer looking to the insect for inspiration on a Progrid Omni 9 for November 2026.
Tarantula hawks get their name from how they reproduce, with adult females aggressively hunting down and paralyzing tarantulas, then using the immobilized spiders as a live food source for their developing larvae. afew’s collab accordingly works in elements from both the wasp and the tarantula. The body takes after the wasp itself, tying in with the insect’s metallic exterior via a slew of see-through, iridescent blue finishes across the various TPU and synthetic elements around the quarter and heel. The mesh underlays skew toward red, orange, and yellow, with the midfoot plate arriving in orange to match. As for the tarantula side of things, black pony hair on the tongue and collar creates a clear tie-in.
