Andrew Rizzo With JJJJound soon to release its latest New Balance 990v3, the other mainstream sneaker collaborator known for its delicate touch is getting in on the action with a collab of its own. First previewed at Paris Fashion Week back in January, Comme des Garçons Homme’s New Balance 1890A pack has emerged in full via official images.
If you’re even vaguely familiar with the label, the colors and general design route should hardly come as a surprise. One pair takes on premium black leather and suede, while the other lends an only slightly less contemporary impression in tan with orange soles. The New Balance 1890A has delivered some applaudable materials via cow print, snakeskin, and premium black leather looks thus far, but even so, CDG’s pairs look a notch above. The suede across the moc toe looks as buttery as can be, as does the leather surrounding the CDG branding within the tongue.
Not to be confused with the standard New Balance 1890, a hybrid sneaker in its own right, the 1890A combines the sole unit of the original New Balance 2002 with a brand-new, tech runner-inspired moc toe upper, an aesthetic clash that stands out even in a hot era for hybrid shoes across the board. The model fits exceptionally well within the curated subversion Comme des Garçons has built for itself, so we’re hardly surprised to see the label get tapped for its first collab.
