Some of the most fascinating sneakers in Nike’s history are the ones that never make it to retail. A previously unseen Nike SB Air Jordan 4 sample has surfaced on X, revealing a colorway reportedly created in tribute to the late Sandy Bodecker, the legendary Nike executive widely credited with helping establish Nike SB.
The unreleased sample draws inspiration from the Nike SB Dunk High “Sea Crystal,” a 2004 silver-box era release said to have been among Bodecker’s personal favorites (via unheardof). That connection is reflected in the Air Jordan 4’s construction, which features two shades of light aqua suede across the upper, complemented by black rubber outsoles. The color scheme closely mirrors the original SB Dunk High that to this day is among the most revered.

Bodecker’s influence on sneaker culture is difficult to overstate. His leadership helped transform Nike’s skateboarding division into a cultural force, establishing the foundation for a line that would eventually become one of the most collectible in footwear history. His legacy has continued to inspire special projects and tributes following his passing in 2018, making this previously unknown Air Jordan 4 sample especially significant.
There are no plans to release this “Sea Crystal” Air Jordan 4 SB, and its emergence serves as another reminder of the countless unreleased concepts and promo samples that exist behind the scenes at Nike. While most will never reach store shelves, these samples are part of what fuel conversations and hype — both of which have been lacking lately at the Swoosh.
