$4 Million Wasn’t Enough To Keep Kanye West at Nike

$4 Million Wasn’t Enough To Keep Kanye West at Nike

Kanye West Nike Contract

Kanye West has been pretty vocal about his displeasure with Nike, and it all reached an apex when the Yeezy Boost sneakers launched during All-Star Weekend. Now with adidas, Kanye has a lot more free range in terms of design direction and presumably, a lot more money, because it was revealed during his speech at SAIC that the Beaverton brand offered him $4 million a year to stay. He reiterates that the reason why he left was that he wasn’t getting royalties that he felt he deserved, but was not awarded because he was not an athlete. He continued to berate Nike’s attempts at collaborating with individuals that Kanye had done years before while praising a pair of adidas he had on his feet, but we’re wondering why Nike would even offer Kanye that much. Yes, Kanye has influence, and yes, he deserves more than sales figures from the Yeezy releases, but $4 million is more than what athletes are getting paid.
