Michael Jordan is a man of many nicknames, he is The Goat, His Airness, MJ, Air Jordan, and Black Cat just to name a few. While most of the other monickers the six-time champion has earned throughout his illustrious playing career are self-explanatory, Black Cat has a bit more of a backstory behind it. While some say this label dates all the way back to Jordan’s days playing pick-up at the playgrounds, the popularization of this particular alias came from Tinker Hatfield during his designing of the Air Jordan 13, citing MJ’s predatory motions on the basketball court. Over the years, we have seen numerous sneakers designs to honor this part of the Jumpman’s illustrious legacy, including the Air Jordan 13 “Black Cat” and the brand new Black Cat silhouette inspired by original Tinker design sketches. However, in 2019, Charlotte’s own Social Status is bringing the Black Cat to life once again by way of a souped up Air Jordan 6 designed specifically for All-Star weekend.

With this year’s ASW festivities taking place in the home city of the Jordan-owned Hornets, it is a perfect time for Social Status to pull out all the stops with this particular premium release. Dressed in a luxe combination of Black and Dark Concord, the former is meant to emulate the extent to which Jordan would go to in search of a victory, while the latter pays homage to the Hornets franchise. Other than its color scheme, this new version of MJ’s first championship winning sneaker equips premium faux fur all around its overlays to further represent the beast responsible for one of the all-time great’s many alter-egos. Pairs of the Social Status x Air Jordan 6 will be releasing exclusively in the Queen City on February 14th, so grab another detailed look below and stay tuned for any new updates.
