Joe Freshgoods And Converse Deliver A Full Capsule Packed With Chicago Soul

Joe Freshgoods And Converse Deliver A Full Capsule Packed With Chicago Soul

During the heat of All-Star 2020, Joe Robinson — or Joe Freshgoods as he’s better known — introduced his New Balance 992, one of the creative’s first official forays into the world of sneakers. And now, almost an entire year thereafter, the Chicago-based designer is expanding on his designs with Converse, crafting a collaborative collection that’s certainly long overdue.

Inclusive of both apparel and two footwear standouts, the range is meant to be digested in order. “I wanted to approach the collection like a reader scrolling through a book about love, Black culture, soul and art,” Freshgoods states. “Each piece is a history lesson.”

And on the very first page lies the newly unveiled Pro Leather, its uppers now tweaked with floral embroideries and a premium mix of both suede and velvet. The black-dressed base is then outfitted further with colorful patches, each tackle twill letter making up one part of the “JFG” stamp. Patent leather stars brand the side, glitter marks the outsole, and the soul of Chicago is found all throughout its various components. In stark departure, the Chuck 70 arrives covered head to toe in patchwork, its busy and colorful design a nod to the T-Shirts Robinson made his signature.

Intended to be worn with the aforementioned shoes, the apparel and accessories cover a deep breadth: tees, hoodies, track pants, and even a translucent duffle. Each, though they may share the same general aesthetic, sprawl with different messaging. Tie-Dyed blanks mark with bubble letters and personified hangers, the bottoms line their sides with chenille insignia, and a few brand simple, touting “CONVERSE FRESHGOODS” at the front and “BOOTLEG ALL STAR” opposite.

Grab a full look at the collaboration here and expect a release to hit Converse.com and select retailers on December 17th.
