Michael Le 2020 was undoubtedly the year of the 992, but what of 2021? With Stray Rats soon to release their own 574, it’s possible that the New Balance silhouette will be making a large resurgence throughout the next few months. This is even further evidenced by the brand’s latest update: the modernized and completely reformed 57/40.
With the additional number comes a slew of both cosmetic and functional changes. But at the model’s baseline, the pair reminds overtly of the original as much of the paneling is left either identical or at least reminiscent. The tooling is where most of the tweaks are visible: its “inspired” shape made eccentric with stacked, multi-colored trims and a utilitarian tread fit for the trail. Above, the construction layers oversized Ns over reflective films over premium leathers, all shaded to complement either a white or black dominant palette.
